The ISA RC28 invites researchers to contribute to its 2016 spring conference to be held in Singapore, May 26-28, 2016.
RC28's general objectives are to promote high quality research on social stratification and social mobility and the international exchange of scientific information in this field. The theme of this conference is
"INTERGENERATIONAL TRANSFER, HUMAN CAPITAL, AND INEQUALITY"
Human capital can be transmitted through private or public transfers across generations. This conference will examine patterns and consequences of intergenerational transfer of money, time, wealth, or psychological resources to human capital development (education, health, trainings, etc) of the population.
Some studies have suggested that family background may have increasingly contributed to the widening social inequality in many societies. Public policies play an important role to redistribute resources in the society. Countries differ enormously on the extent to which private and public transfer across generations contribute to the development of human capital. In the 2016 Singapore conference, scholars and policy makers will seek a better understanding of the patterns and implications of these transfers for social stratification and mobility around the world.
Papers relevant to this core theme are particularly welcome. Contributions on the broad theme of social inequalities and social mobility will also be considered. Submission of abstracts must be in English and made online at the conference website submission page (available only between October 1 -December 10, 2015). Please specify whether you are submitting your abstract for paper presentation only, poster presentation only or for either.
The deadline for abstract submissions is December 10, 2015 at 5:00 p.m, Singapore Time (UTC/GMT +8 hours). All abstracts must be submitted electronically via the abstract submission website.
To submit your abstract, you need to provide the following information: Full Name, Email, Address, Paper Title, Paper Author(s), Affiliation(s), insert up to 5 keywords, paste in your Abstract text (150 - 200 words), and upload an extended abstract (2 - 4 pages) or paper (.pdf, .doc or .docx)
All presenters, chairs and discussants must be registered for the meeting to participate.
